John Engel, BA, CIP John Engel is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. He holds a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, is a certified Xerox Professional Selling Skills trainer and has lectured at the Insurance Institute of Ontario. John began his insurance career in the early 1980s at Chubb Insurance where he mastered the skill of marketing niche products to a group of preferred brokers. In 1984 he transferred this knowledge to Crum & Forster where he quickly transformed C&F into the #2 high value personal insurance market in Canada. Following General Accident’s (GA) acquisition of C&F in 1991, John took on the role of National Marketing Manager where he introduced a “partnership” approach to broker management positively impacting well over 2500 insurance brokers. In the mid-1990’s John led a number of high-profile special projects for GA including the LINCQ point-of-sale, multi-insurer initiative. From 1998 to 2001 John was responsible for Aviva Canada’s three call centres, successfully growing the business from $30 million to well over $150 million in Direct Written Premium. In 2001, while still with Aviva Canada, John took over leadership of Scottish & York. Under John’s stewardship, this unique brand (broker sells/company services value proposition) experienced unprecedented growth and profitability over his nine years at the helm. While in this role, John introduced the innovation of telematics to the Ontario auto insurance market. John has gained a well-earned reputation within the brokerage community for honesty and integrity as well as his “under-promise, over-deliver” approach to business. | |||||||||
